Leaves have now changed colors and so has the month. Which brings us to our new Athlete of the Month for November…
Gabriela Oliveira
Gabi has had such a tremendous change since joining us. Not only has her eating habits improved, so has her self confidence and strength. Gabi does so well at focusing on her gymnastics that now she can do a handstand hold with no problem. Her strength and body awareness gets better day by day and is in a great routine and now can enjoy working out with her husband as well. Let’s read more about Gabi below
Tell us about yourself.
I’m from Brazil, my husband and I moved to St Joseph in 2015, and I fell in love with this charming city. I love travelling, walking on the beach, playing volleyball and watching the sunset (I never get tired of it). I work at the hospital as a Medical Lab Scientist and I also love to bake! And Christmas!
How long have you been with Tides and what made you decide to start?
I joined Tides in February this year. The idea of a functional exercise was what I was looking for, after doing a little research I decided to give it a try, and here I am!
When did you realize this gym was right for you?
I find it really hard to push myself for exercising on my own. Having the group and the coaches cheering us up really makes a difference to me. The coaches really inspire me to do my best and are always super helpful to make sure I’m doing the right movements and getting the best out of each exercise.
What were your thoughts after your first WOD?
I was sore for days!! Even on muscles I didn’t even know existed. But oddly, wanted more
What is your favorite/least favorite WOD/movements?
I like burpees and sit ups (yes, I’m a weirdo) but not a huge fan of wall balls. And those assault bikes! I don’t know who created them, but I don’t wish them well
What have you learned since joining Tides?
A LOT!! Not just how to do the movements correctly but also that I am capable of doing things I never thought I would. It’s incredible to see how much you improve every day.
What is your proudest moment at Tides, or something you accomplished that you never thought you would do?
Being able to stand upside down was definitely a proud moment for me. Even though I still can’t do the HSPU. One day I’ll get there!
What motivates you during a tough workout?
The Tides Family! The group and the coaches are always encouraging one another. Karie is awesome!!
How have you seen yourself change- mentally and physically since joining Tides? What impact has CFT had on you in and out of the gym?
I know I still have a lot to change, but I can see myself more conscious about my body, the balance between diet and exercise is not simple. I think I can say that everyday I learn a little more about how to have healthier habits
Do you have any advice for people just getting started at Tides?
KEEP GOING!!! It pays out, I promise!!
When you’re not working out, what is your favorite thing to do?
I love playing volleyball, being around good people (and dogs), doing crafts and baking!
Favorite Thanksgiving leftovers?
STUFFING!! love that next day stuffing
Anything else you’d like to share?
My husband just joined Tides! I’m really proud I finally convinced him! Also, we just got a puppy, her name is Farofa and she is the cutest!
