February 2022 Athlete of the Month

#atotm #tidestrained #tidesfamily

We are rolling through the year already and going strong with our nutrition challenge. And one particular member comes to mind on who has been working hard and dominating it, oh and she is our new Athlete of the Month. Any guesses?? Yep, Nancy Miller!!!! She has been with us since the end of last year and has really made some pathways into a stronger mind and body. One of her goals is to run a half marathon in every state. Such an awesome goal and great way to see the rest of our beautiful country. Read more about Nancy below and be sure to give her a high five when you see her at the next class!

Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised in Watervliet and still live in the very same spot to this day.  I am married and have a terrific five-year-old son.  I work for Eagle Technologies as an Employee Relations Specialist.

How long have you been with CrossFit Tides and what made you decide to start?

I have been with CrossFit Tides since late November 2021. I started with the encouragement of Emily.  I was a part of a different gym but wasn’t committing to attending and thought trying another gym may satisfy my need for a plan and comradery.

What were your thoughts after your first WOD?

This is hard!  LOL  In all honesty, I felt good.

What do you enjoy most about Tides or CrossFit in general?

I am a people person; I REALLY enjoy seeing the same friendly faces each time I show up.  I feel like the CrossFit portion of my life is helping the other aspects of my life both in health and performance.

What have you learned since joining Tides?

That I CAN eat foods that are good for me and not die without my constant sugar fix.

What is your proudest moment?

So far, I would say my first week in the Nutrition Challenge.  I stuck with it and saw pretty awesome results.

How have you seen yourself change- mentally and physically since joining Tides? What impact has CFT had on you in and out of the gym?

Mentally, I have been able to challenge myself to get past my “I can’t” statements.  Removed a decent amount of negative self-talk.  Physically, I am noticing differences in the way my clothing fits.  When I walk past a mirror I am starting to like what I see.

When you’re not CrossFitting what is your favorite thing to do?

Spend time with my family.  In the summer we camp ALL THE TIME.  I am looking forward to warm weather!

The one tip you’d give someone who is thinking about starting or just started?

Just do it!  ALL the coaches want you to be successful and never talk down to you or make you feel like you should know.  Stick with it!  Results worth having may take a bit.

Anything else you’d like to share?

CrossFit Tides has been very accommodating to my schedule when it came to meeting up for Elements (orientation) and allows my son (as long as he self-entertained) to come along when I don’t have a daycare option.
