And to keep up on a bit of education for how our body uses energy, we can discuss the glycolytic pathway. This is the second metabolic pathway used in the body but targets a bit differently.

The Second Pathway

With phosphagen being the highest energy input in a short time, the next wave is glycolysis which uses about 70-80% of your body’s effort. The range changes a bit with a higher output of energy for about :30 to 2:00 and can drop down to a bit lower but still releasing energy output.  During this process called glycogenolysis, carbohydrates in either the form of blood glucose or muscle glycogen (stored glucose) is broken down through a series of chemical reactions which releases energy. Though this process, it actually uses very little energy for your body to produce so you receive it very quickly. Since the process is repeated, this creates fate for the conversion to lactate which has a demand for oxygen. To receive more oxygen to keep this going, it raises your heart rate.

Since it takes some time to recover, the workout can have short built-in rest or a movement to still perform but you are able to catch your breath a rebuild.

For programming workouts to have some rest in there, they may look like these:

“Fran”

21-15-9

Thrusters 95/65

Pullups

Tabata 8 rounds :20 work with :10 rest

Air squats

Bike calories

Pushups

Bike calories

Although these workouts are short, they still bring intensity. Intensity over volume helps you achieve the energy output you need to get your engines firing and keep burning even after the work is done.
