January 2022 Athlete of the Month

#atotm #tidestrained #tidesfamily

WOW!!! What a way to kick off a new year to celebrate a new athlete of the month. Let’s start this year off with a bang and congratulate….wait for it… Kim Webb!!!! Members come in and witness Kim CRUSHING her workouts and want to be just like her. Kim has been with us for the past 4 years and shows no signs of slowing down. In just the past 6 months, she has PR’d her power snatch, done full burpees, 45# plate hops, hanging knee raises, and has even deadlifted more than her current personal record. Oh and no big thing that she did it for 6 REPS!!! And we can all agree that her favorite movement is the bench press. Kim fills our spirit and keeps that fire burning for all of us. Read more about Kim below and how Tides has shown a positive improvement on her health.

Tell us about yourself.

Originally a native of the Chicago area, I consider myself very fortunate to have lived and worked in SW Michigan for the last 21 years. A graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, I came to love the beaches, small town lifestyle, wonderful people and easy pace of St Joe. I have been a realtor for the last 21 years and tell everyone St Joseph is one of the most special places they can live!

How long have you been with CrossFit Tides and what made you decide to start?

I have been with Crossfit Tides for 4 years, except for a 1 year Covid break.

What were your thoughts after your first WOD?

Thoughts after my first WOD – OMG! Is my body going to hurt like this after every workout!!??

Luckily it gets better lol!

What do you enjoy most about Tides or CrossFit in general?

I LOVE the camaraderie of everyone at Tides, and love the improvement! have seen in my health and clarity of mind.

What have you learned since joining Tides?

If you keep at it, you will get there! Be patient. As Coach Brian says, “Rome was not built in a day.”

What is your proudest moment?

My proudest moment would have to be getting up on the rig. I loved monkey bars as a kid. It took a while to increase my hand strength and is very different when you are 60!

How have you seen yourself change- mentally and physically since joining Tides?

Since joining Tides I have lost weight, improved strength and many have commented I am growing younger!!!

When you’re not CrossFitting what is your favorite thing to do?

When I am not at Crossfit, I love nature walks at the beach or forest.

The one tip you’d give someone who is thinking about starting or just started?

If you are just getting started, first you have to start! Then keep at it. It is what you do everyday that makes a difference!

Anything else you’d like to share?

Love the family atmosphere at our gym! Thank you ALL for all your efforts and friendly support!
